Multiwavelength Rotation Curves to Test Dark Halo Central Shapes Sébastien

چکیده
We use Fabry-Perot Hα spectroscopy, complemented with published H I radio synthesis observations to derive high resolution rotation curves of spiral galaxies. We investigate precisely their inner mass distribution and compare it to CDM simulations predictions. Having verified the existence of the so-called core-cusp problem, we find that the dark halo density inner slope is related to the galaxy masses. Dwarf galaxies with Vmax < 100 km/s have halo density inner slope 0 < γ < 0.7 while galaxies with Vmax > 100 km/s are best fitted by γ ≥ 1.

Distribution of Dark Matter in Bulge, Disk and Halo inferred from High-accuracy Rotation Curves
High-accuracy rotation curves of spiral galaxies show a steep rise in the central few hundred pc region, indicating high concentration of mass toward the center. Using the rotation curves, we idrectly calculate radial distributions of the surface-mass density (SMD), and obtain radial profiles of the mass-to-luminosity ratio (M/L). The M/L ratio is found to vary significantly not only in the mas...
متن کاملMass Models for Low Surface Brightness Galaxies with High Resolution Optical Velocity Fields
We present high-resolution optical velocity fields from DensePak integral field spectroscopy, along with derived rotation curves, for a sample of low surface brightness galaxies. In the limit of no baryons, we fit the NFW and pseudoisothermal halo models to the data and find the rotation curve shapes and halo central densities to be better described by the isothermal halo. For those galaxies wi...
متن کاملConstraints on the Structure of Dark Matter Halos from the Rotation Curves of Low Surface Brightness Galaxies
We re-examine the disk-halo decompositions of the rotation curves of low surface brightness (LSB) galaxies with Vmax ≥ 80 km s −1, taking full account of the effects of beam smearing. We show that the rotation curves of these LSB galaxies are, contrary to previous claims, consistent with dark halos with steep central cusps in their density distribution. In fact, the spatial resolution of the da...
متن کاملScaling behaviour of a scalar field model of dark matter halos
Galactic dark matter is modelled by a scalar field. In particular, it is shown that an analytically solvable toy model with a non–linear self–interaction potential U(Φ) leads to dark halo models which have the form of quasi–isothermal spheres. We argue that these fit better the observed rotation curves of galaxies than the centrally cusped halos of standard cold dark matter. The scalar field mo...
متن کاملGalaxy Dynamics from Edge - On Late - type Galaxies
We present first results of a program to study the dynamics of undisturbed bulgeless, low surface density disk galaxies in order to probe the underlying structure of dark matter halos. High resolution Hα rotation curves are combined with optical and infrared imaging to place strong limits on the halo profiles. We find noticable variation in the shapes of the rotation curves, in contrast to prev...
